Before school started we Tom and I decided to take a quick two day trip to the Lancaster area for some antique shopping and sight seeing. On the way we had to stop and do the tour at the Haine’s shoe house. The house was surprisingly larger then I expected inside, though the bedroom located under the laces has a sloping ceiling that would make me feel a little claustrophobic. The kitchen was adorable and still had all its original appliances. I didn’t get a lot of photos inside because we were on the tour with four other adults, and five kids, so a little tight. In Lancaster we stayed at the Lancaster Arts Hotel which is in an old cigar warehouse, its perfectly located next to a coffee & donut shop (Mean Cup coffee & newly opened Beiler’s donuts) which made a very convenient breakfast combination. We had dinner one night at a brewery called Bube’s Brewery which gives you a little tour before dinner where you descend 43 feet into the stone-lined vaults of the Catacombs. Then you get to sit and eat several stories below the surface of the street. I love novelty stuff like this, and the meal includes some locally made pretzels and cheese dip while you wait for your food. The next day we did the antique circuit in Adamstown PA. There is one main street where you can stop at somewhere between 10-13 antique malls. We found plenty of treasure which I still need to take some photos of. I’d love to go back to Lancaster again soon for even more exploring. I have been there a bunch with my sister on her birthday trips, but it was always in February, and so being there in the Summer made it so much easier to walk around without freezing.
